Ah, the product of blood sweat and tears. one down, two to go. ^^ That's about as faras I'd get. Cut out pattern and sew together. Shift dress, DONE.

*nods* Which is pretty much what I'm doing at the moment.... of course, I also have to lucet (It's a type of knitting that uses a two pronged piece of wood. Very relaxing, actually) the ties for both dresses... thankfully, I can do that really, really quickly. Something to do in the evenings when it starts to get a bit hard to see the fabric & thread (or I've stabbed myself one too many times).

Good news, one of my housemates has a sewing machine and will probably help me out if I'm running out of time.

Once this is all finished I'm going to be running around in about 30 - 40m of fabric.

.....in this weather? yea gods. I hope wherever you're wearing this, they have air conditioning. I know it's winter where you are but you're further north to the equator, yeah? Warmer than Melbourne.

*laughs* Nope. No air-con. All outdoors. Daily temps at the moment don't really get higher than 22C (The last event was FREEZING!!! It didn't get above 12C)

Okay, I know that, traditionally, these dresses were made out of fur and wool, but we Queensland re-enactors aren't quite that stupid (for all that we like to beat each other up and all that). My bottom layer, the chemise, is made of calico. Next layer, the kirtle, is linen. We like linen, linen breathes. The houpeladde has two layers to it, the lining is calico and the pretty fabric is actually cotton.

Plus, I'm going as a lady. We didn't do much except sit around and look pretty ^__^
