Mar. 7th, 2004 10:04 pmHad my first Irish Dancing comp of the year today. It went pretty well. Out at Redcliffe (my old stomping ground. I know that venue like the back of my hand... now if I could just figure out which bit is the back...).
I danced the slip jig (for those non-dancing literate people reading this, it's a soft shoe dance that's traditionally danced by the females only. It's supposed to be nice and graceful) and then did a traditional set dance (St Patricks Day. Very simple to do.. doesn't mean that I didn't forget what I was doing halfway through it though. Only stuffed up for a second and covered it pretty well).
I didn't come anywhere in the Slip Jig. I was happy to just get through it without any major stuff ups (I only just learnt it a few weeks ago. I still get halfway through the dance, realize that I've done the wrong step and I'm supposed to be on the other side of the room and bolt across the stage). I only had one and that was something that was easy to cover. I was even gliding!
As I said before, I stuffed St. Patricks Day up, but I still won it. I think the judges had a choice, the one with the tiny little error.. or the girl who was so far out of time it was almost painful. First time I've won something for a quite some time.
