Stars, helmer back on the set; pic to release Sept 30, 2005
The sequel to the blockbuster, The Mask of Zorro, began filming on July 26, 2004, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Antonio Banderas returns in the role of Alejandro de la Vega devoted to his beautiful wife, Elena, played by superstar Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film is tentatively titled The Legend of Zorro.
Martin Campbell has returned to direct the film, assembling much of his former production crew. Phil Meheux again stands behind the camera as the cinematographer. The production designer, Celia Montiel, is creating a dramatic look to the sets. Graciela Mazon outfits the cast, working closely with Montiel for a special integrated look and feel to the film and actors. The nineteen week shoot wraps on Dec. 6, 2005.
Lloyd Philips has stepped in to the role of Executive Producer with Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald in Producers roles and Zorro Productions' John Gertz as Co-Producer.
San Luis Potosi is located about four hours north of Mexico City. The production crew built most of the sets around a large hacienda on the outskirts of town.
Zeta-Jones is coming off shooting Oceans 12 while Banderas' latest success was as the voice of Puss 'n Boots in Shrek 2.
Campbell (GoldenEye, Vertical Limit, Beyond Borders) has been developing a sequel to 1998's The Mask of Zorro for several years. That film launched the career of Zeta-Jones.

I heard they were making a sequal just before Shrek 2 came out. I was watching the interview with Antonio Banderas on Enough Rope and he was talking about the Zorro sequal.
