Incredibly stupid.
Seriously, I mean it! Somebody needs to slap me. I'll even stand still for you. I sent my Masters of Linguistics: TESOL application off a week and a bit ago, right. No problems there I thought everything was going well. Boy was I wrong.
Was reading back over the thing yesterday-ish and noticed something... I forgot to put my CELTA on the application form.
Let me re-iterate. My CELTA (very important piece of paper that says I'm qualified to teach English and highly thought of in the application process). Missing! As in, not there, absent, no-where in the neighbourhood of being on that application form.
ACK!!! *flail* *panic*
I did not sleep much at all last night and Mum kept asking me something along the lines of "How could you forget it? *It was sitting right in front of you!" I kept having visions of whoever it was looking at my app going "Bachelors, good. Three to four years of ESL experience, very good. CELTA..... no. *DENIED*"
I have no idea how I missed it! I checked that damn thing at least 5 times before I sent it. How could I have missed it?! *Gibbs!Smacks herself repeatedly*
I rang the Arts faculty first thing this morning. The moment I told the lady on the other end what I'd done she started reassuring me and told me exactly what I had to do.
....
Actually, the speed at which she told me makes me think I'm not the first person to forget something important on their application form.
Anyway, I had to get my CELTA and find a Commissioner of Declarations to certify a copy of it... okay, no idea what that is, no worries. I can deal. Then, I write a letter explaining what's happened to attach to the front of the certified certificate copy. Finally, post it off to the Uni right away and they'll attach it to my application form.
She had to assure me multiple times that, yes, they would be able to find my app and attach the stuff to it (new nightmare for me for the next few weeks. Them not finding my app *headdesk*
I asked the lady I was speaking to where I could find a Commissioner of Declarations and she advised me to come into the Uni as they have one at the Student Centre...
...small problem. I'm up in one end of the state and the Uni's down the other (and there's a 2 1/2hr flight between the two cities. $300ish return on the budget airlines). There she couldn't help me.
I had a moment of logic after I got off the phone (oh, hush you lot. I do have them sometimes). UQ's a Uni and we've got a JCU just down the road from us. They'll probably have one! I google their phone number and call them. I was right! They did!
So, Mum and I pile into the car and drive out to JCU... I have had my vow of never ever attending or visiting JCU for any reason, unless I absolutely have to, re-affirmed. That University couldn't organise a fart in a space suit! They are useless. The person who said "Come on down! We've got one ^__^" and who was, apparently the Commissioner of Declarations, went to a meeting. They spent a good 15 minutes wandering around their office looking lost, while holding my CELTA, trying to find someone who could certify my copy.
Got it done eventually. I found out I could've just got a JP to do it... which kinda annoyed me 'cause I know the JP down at the local Post Office and she'd have done it for me within seconds...and I would've been able to send the stupid thing off at the same time.
Anyway, I got home and typed up a letter to go on the front of this certificate copy..
rosieknight is a life saver! She looked over it for me and pointed out a few things that I needed to fix.
Then it was print and run. Mum'd dropped me back at home and continued on to Central to get her hair done. I caught the bus in. Once Mum was finished at the hairdressers we went straight to the post office, bought an express post envelope, and sent that thing down to UQ. It should be there by Monday at the latest...which is good, since applications close on the 31st of this month.
And that was my day.
Let the Gibbs!slapping commence.
