Well, I have a job until I fly out to Rome/Amsterdam/Prague/Warsaw/Mragowo... did I mention the mother daughter trip that I'm doing before I start work?
Well, yes, anyway, I have a job. Here's how it happened. I wasn't really intending to work before I flew out, but I bumped into Andrew, my tutor, when I was in the city on.. um, was it Wednesday???? Anyway, we got to talking and he wanted to know whethere I was going to work before I flew out or not. I wasn't sure and eventually had to wander off to catch my bus.
Long story short, the next day in my email I had something from him mentioning that they had a job going at the school if I was interested. I thought about it and figured, hell, if I'm getting $35 an hour to work there then why not? It's extra pocket money for before I fly out *grin*. So I called. They'd already filled the position but he gave my email and mobile number to the DOS in case anything came up.
Thursday finds an email from the DOS asking if I was interested in doing an Option class this week for two hours a day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and if they needed someone to fill in for someone who'd called in sick would I mind doing relief teaching? I said sure why not.
So, 6:58am this morning my mobile starts going off. The DOS has just sms'd me asking if I could work today starting at 8:30am. I messaged back with a yes. Sat in bed for 2 minutes and then realised CRAP!!!! I had to get a bus, which was leaving VERY soon. Flew around the house and accidentally woke mum up making AAAAAAAAARRRRG!!! noises while running around in circles trying to make a cup of tea, dress, and pull shoes on all at the same time. Thankfully she said she'd drive me in, so I got there by 8am.
So, I get there and thankfully there was a sembalance of a lesson plan for me to follow. Well, the first two sessions were kind of planned. More of a 'do this if you feel like it' kind of thing. Thank god they have a half decent text book 'cause that's pretty much what I relied on for the day.
8:30am - 3:15pm is what I worked today with one hour for lunch and a couple of breaks in between. I've currently got all of this paperwork to fill in, tax stuff, employment forms, that sort of thing, and a folder of stuff to use for the Option class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (which is on a campus that I didn't even know EXISTED!!!) that I have to hand back tomorrow. There's also the possibility that I'll be working again tomorrow.
Plan is that I'll get up at 6:30am, have a cup of tea and eat breakfast and wait and see if the phone rings or not. If it does then at least I'll have the time to run and get the bus (as opposed to today when I ran about like a demented chicken).
Oh, here's a funny story from class today. Was trying to teach the word 'slipped'. Tried miming it on the floor by pretending that I'd just slipped and somehow my right leg flicks up. That's not all that happened. My shoe flies off my right foot, soars through the air, smacks into the roof, and then whacks one of the girls on the shoulder on the way down.
So embarrasing!
And, well. That's my job. I'm going to be a relief teacher until I fly for Rome. Whee!

Yes, it does happen outside the movies. Haven't seen it happen (other than to me), but it does happen.
