Update from Sheena
Feb. 4th, 2008 07:47 am... I just realised that I haven't told you anything of what I did on my holiday. BAD Sheena! LOL!
So, I'll start with my first day and post one a day ('cause I'm seriously running around like a demented headless chicken on crack at the moment at work. Two new students and only a few months to finish text books that should take 4 semesters, not TWO!! Aaaaaaaaaaaah!!! STRESS!!!)
So, I set my alarm for 7:30am the night before and went to bed (rather late, I did get about 2 hours sleep though).
8:30am I wake up and freak out. I don't remember turning my alarm off, but I must've because the clock had been moved. Whoops. So, flew around like a demented chicken on crack, packed my bags, had coffee and breakfast and STILL managed to get the bus I wanted (and by extension the train).
Got to Olsztyn at about 12ish and immediately bought a train ticket to Warsaw... did it in POLISH too, I was quite proud of that (considering I've had one lesson and really can only say the stuff I've heard other people say. Hello, good night, shut up... things like that).
So, at the platform I had no bloody idea where my train was. Thankfully managed to grab a lady (with kids and big ports) and asked her whether the train at the platform was the one to Warsaw (point at the ticket, point at the train, look hopeless and wave your arms about a LOT!!).
It worked.
I ended up sharing a compartment with her, her sister, her sisters kids (a young boy and his very young sister. She kept kicking me on accident). The kids spoke a bit of English and they kept showing off for the whole trip. The little girl, for example, would shout out random Enlglish words like 'ELEPHANT!!' and then grin proudly.
The boy started listening to some music/rap in English on his mobile...which got me giggling uncontrollably. It was rap about gay people and, well, it was quite rude in some places. REALLY rude, actually. And crude. The mother was tapping her feet and dancing in her seat to it. I'd love to know if she actually knew what was being sung. I don't think she did.
I got turned around and lost three times trying to find my way to the hostel I was spending the night at in Warsaw. Managed to find it eventually and checked in. I was in the 'Sweety Room'.
It was pink.
Fairy floss pink.
Pink walls, pink beds, pink trimmings and pink bedspreads.
PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got out of there and bought myself some dinner. I then headed back and made my way to the hostel bar. I ended upspending a couple of hours in there chatting to the people.
there were two other people in my dorm when I got back (three bed female dorm). They were both asleep so I puttered off to have a shower. Once I was done there I crawled into bed.
I didn't get much sleep that night. ONe of the other girls in teh dorm snored like a runaway jackhammer! The other girled yelled at her to shut up (in Polish) every five minutes (Imagine. *SNOOOOOOOOOOOORE*breath*SNOOOOORE*breath*CHIHO!!!! (polish for shut up)*SNOOOOOOORE*). I curled up into a ball and tried not to laugh hysterically... or give into the temptation to yell at BOTH of them to SHUT UP!!! in multiple languages.

Date: 2008-02-03 10:56 pm (UTC)*snickers* Oh, yes. The snoring person. It seems like there's on in every sleepover/dorm/household/whatever.

Date: 2008-02-03 11:16 pm (UTC)You should've seen me in Rotterdam. That was the ultimate 'oh, my, GOD, where AM I?!?!' moment.
Well, I really only had to see it when I first came in and when I woke up in the morning. When I got back from the bar the lights were off so I couldn't see it.. and the beds were really comfy (then again, my 'bed' here is a fold out couch, so anything would be more comfortable).
Oh, god. Isn't that the truth! There was a snorer in every single dorm I stayed in.. and I always seemed to get the bed right NEXT to them!!!! Gah!
I'll post another update about it tomorrow..ish. No promises 'cause I have to work AND I've got a Polish lesson as well.

Date: 2008-02-04 11:28 pm (UTC)Well, if I hadn't started laughing in the hostel I probably would've either ended up cursing them both out in, lessee... Mandarin, Japanese, English, Irish Gaelic..and there are more, but this beer's going to my head (Ginger Beer. Tastes like the soft drink, just with alcohol. 'Tis goooooooood!).
Well, second Polish lesson is done. I'm actually going to try some of it in the shops tomorrow.
